Tab Hunter: Figure Skater

A competitive skater himself, Hunter was friends with many "Ice Capades" skaters, which is how he met Robertson. "He could spin faster than anybody in the world," Hunter said proudly. They were careful not to be seen together often, but Hunter accompanied Robertson to the 1956 world figure skating championship. Robertson was told he wouldn't win if Hunter attended. "The fact that I was there with Ronnie might have hurt his ability to win. And he should have won," he said.

I will be tackling the stories of two of the biggest pop icons of this generation. Prince and George Michael. Two artists we lost too soon. I can’t stop listening to Prince at the moment which makes it difficult to not want to jump ahead and focus on the Prince issue. I can’t wait to share with you all so many personal photos of my trip two weeks ago,

Last night I was working on the upcoming zine "Dead in Hollywood: The Crucifixion of George Michael (Issue #11) when I spilled a glass of water on my laptop, frying it. I lost everything! Or so I thought. Spending three dollars a month on iCloud storage space turned out to be quite the bargain. The laptop was not so lucky. I'm still hoping to finish the issue before the L.A. Zine Fest on May 26th. I pray to George Michael that I will. "The Crucifixion of George Michael" will focus on Michael's arrest on April 8, 1998, for a "lewd act" in a public restroom in a Beverly Hills park, forcing the pop icon out of the closet. Michael's helped me come to terms with my own sexuality. At 13, my conservative, Trump-loving uncle bought me Michael's "Faith" album for Christmas. He's never really spoken to me after I came out years later in 1998. It's not just pop icons and mythical religious figures who are shunned and crucified. BTW, that uncle also introduced me to En Vogue's "Funky Divas" album on a road trip to Mexico when I was 14. Maybe I'll send him a copy of the zine when I'm finished.
